Lot 6452 - Augmented Garnet (X-7)

Est. value: $450

Winning bid: $338

Lot Closed

Augmented Garnet (X-7) by Stewart Coffin

Open

Designer/Maker: Stewart Coffin

Diameter: 9cm

Notes: Extract from Coffin's Compendium notes:

One-of-a-kind, six pieces, interlocking. Could be described as a Garnet #60 with the addition of 24 more identical blocks around the outside inverted. Here in oak and poplar…

This puzzle is in fact the one that appears photographed and described in More Designs in AP-ART, the addendum to the Compendium documenting the X-Series designs. One piece inscribed "X-7,STC,2017". Light finish with some slight gaps; good movement.

Lot 6453 - Eight Star (13-C)

Est. value: $450

Winning bid: $1,455

Lot Closed

Eight Star (13-C) by Stewart Coffin

Designer/Maker: Stewart Coffin

Diameter: 10cm

Notes: Extract from Coffin's Compendium notes:

Of course we had to have at least one of these to round out the set. I may have made only one, and would not have even known of it but for a photo supplied by John Rausch.

But now in 2017 I have made another so we can get at least some clue what the pieces look like.

This puzzle is in fact the one that appears photographed and described in Coffin's 2018 Compendium. One exterior piece inscribed "13-C,STC,2017". Light finish; a few rough edges, slightly tight movement, but excellent fit (would be challenging to separate halves without the guide marks).
